Woodward Turf Farms

Our Story

Over five decades of family farming in the mid-Atlantic. Same land. Same values. Better sod every year.

Who We Are

A Family Farm,
Built to Last.

Woodward Turf Farms has been rooted in the mid-Atlantic for over five decades. What started as a family farming operation has grown into one of the region's most trusted sod suppliers — without losing the values that built it.

We grow every variety we sell on our own land. No brokered product, no out-of-region imports. When you order from Woodward, you're getting sod that was grown in the same climate it's going into — selected, cultivated, and harvested by people who know this land.

Over 500 acres in production. Five premium varieties. And a team that's been doing this long enough to know what works — and what doesn't.

Our History

Five Decades in the Field

1970s

The Farm Takes Root

The Woodward family begins farming in the mid-Atlantic, establishing the land and practices that would eventually become Woodward Turf Farms.

1980s

Turf Becomes the Focus

Recognizing the growing demand for quality sod in the region, the family transitions to dedicated turf production — starting with Fescue varieties suited to local conditions.

1990s

Growing the Operation

Acreage expands and the variety lineup grows. Bermuda and Zoysia varieties are added to serve the full range of mid-Atlantic customers — residential, commercial, and athletic.

2000s

Regional Reputation

Word spreads. Landscapers, developers, and municipalities across the region come to rely on Woodward for consistent quality and dependable delivery.

Today

Five Decades Strong

Over 500 acres in production, five premium varieties, and the same family commitment to quality that started it all. Still growing. Still delivering.

What Makes Us Different

The Woodward Way

Grown Here, Sold Here

Every pallet we deliver comes from our own fields. We don't broker sod from other farms or ship in product from out of region. What we grow, we stand behind.

Cut to Order

We harvest on your schedule, not ours. Fresh-cut sod performs better — it roots faster, handles stress better, and gives your project the best possible start.

Varieties That Belong Here

Every variety in our lineup was selected specifically for mid-Atlantic conditions. We don't grow what looks good in a catalog — we grow what performs in our climate.

Relationships Over Transactions

Most of our customers come back season after season. We've built our business on being the kind of supplier you can call with a question and get a straight answer.

Our Operation

Grown with Care.
Delivered with Pride.

Sod farming is patient work. It takes months of cultivation — soil prep, seeding, fertilizing, mowing, irrigating — before a field is ready to harvest. We've been doing this long enough to know that shortcuts show up in the product.

We invest in the right equipment, the right agronomic practices, and the right varieties so that when your sod arrives on site, it's ready to perform. That's the standard we hold ourselves to, every harvest.
